  I am very much interested in the Hindi Track based on my work and background. I was wondering how demanding admissions is regarding the language requirement.  Reply

An excerpt: "The nine languages and corresponding regions available for study are Arabic (Middle East); Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese (East Asia); French, German, Hindi (India) andRussian (Europe); and Portuguese and Spanish (Latin America). Applicants must have an Advanced level of proficiency, preferably Advance Mid, in one of these languages at the time they apply."   so, most likely,the people applying will be candidates raised in a family that speaks Hindi given how hard it is to find classes in Hindi...i thought lauder would be a bit more open on this Reply

  Hi, delinks, I wouldn't be surprised if several applicants for the track would be heritage speakers of Hindi. However, whether your hypothesis is right or not will depend also on the type of people who are drawn to the Hindi Lauder offering. There are many universities and summer programs, these days, that offer Hindi classes, and it could very well be that there are several folks who are interested in learning more about Hindi-speaking cultures and business environments who are not heritage speakers.  I'm not sure what you mean by "i [sic] thought lauder [sic] would be a bit more open on this." At the end of the day, the Lauder program has certain standards. Those who fit those standards are eligible for the program; those who do not would likely struggle and not benefit from the program. That would be a lose-lose proposition for both the educational institution and the student. -Victor WG '11 Reply

  Keep in mind, also, that you only have two years in the Lauder MA program, when combined with the Wharton MBA. There has to be some degree of proficiency at the time of application that is sufficient to lead the Lauder Admissions folks to feel you can develop a high degree of mastery in the language of choice by the time you graduate.  Allowing folks with more moderate language skills to undertake the program would be a disservice to those students.  -Victor Reply
