Are there any courses offered specifically on the Energy industry?

If not, are there courses in Finance that might provide insight into energy investment banking?

    Thanks!

    LGeorge,

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a specific course focusing exclusively on the Energy vertical. Several classes, though, may include topics that are pertinent to those interested in energy business activities. You may want to consider perusing the MBA resource guide (http://www.wharton.upenn.edu/mbaresource/) to investigate further.

That being said, Wharton does have a pretty active Energy Club (http://www.whartonenergyclub.com/) that can be an excellent complement to one's formal studies at Wharton.

Most Wharton courses aren't specific to an industry, but rather a function or area of business. The idea is that students with a wide diversity of backgrounds and interests are in classes together, learning about the business fundamentals from the coursework and each other.  Students can than go apply these learnings to a wide variety of industries.

As Victor said, student clubs and activities help students learn more about their industries of interest and network with industry professionals.  I definitely recommend checking out the Energy Club as well as the Wharton Energy Conference to get a feel for the activities of the club.

    Hello LGeorge,

Currently there are no specific Wharton courses on commodity finance, in which you would find extensive discussions of energy issues. However, you will be able to take courses from other Penn schools (especially from Penn Engineering) that specifically cover Energy. There are courses that cover Energy systems and Policy, Renewable Energy and its impact, among others. Also, you will gain a lot of insight into the energy sector by joining the Wharton Energy Club, which organizes a lot of activities (including workshops, seminars, etc) on energy. The club also organizes the Wharton Energy Conference that brings together key players in the Energy sector to discuss current issues, trends and outlook for the industry. I hope this helps. However, in case you need further clarification on this matter, please feel free to reach out to me.
