  • Interview options for US-based candidates

    Hi Victor and FF.

Having just received an invite to interview, I have been looking for an open slot for the last hours and  there is none for San Francisco, Boston or on campus.

Though I'm based on the West Coast, I am willing to travel to any of these locations to complete the interview. It sounds a bit silly for a US-based candidate to ask for a Skype/Phone interview, so before I call the Adcom to do so, I wanted to explore my options:

    1. Based perhaps on earlier interviews (Rd1 or early Rd2), how reasonable is it to expect some slots to open or to be added?

    2. Can you confirm that a Skype and/or a phone interview is the only alternatives I would have given the unavailability of interview slots?

    3. What is the deadline to interview? There are two conflicting dates coming from the email I received after submitting my app (it says by 3/9) and this blog post by the Adcom (it says by 3/16 in major cities).

Based on my research of this forum and others, it seems a lot of candidate are in this position. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

If no convenient options are showing up on the system, I'd suggest contacting the admissions office - they often hold back some interview slots (especially on campus) for those invited later in the process.

You may also wish to leave some (polite) feedback with the admissions office about the lack of both visibility and availability of convenient interview slots, and the lack of clarity about final interview dates.

I agree with FF that the best thing to do at this stage is contact Admissions directly. Perhaps they can set something up in Philly.

Re: the deadline, I believe 3/16 is the most up to date information (with 3/9 "pre-programmed" some time ago). However, it is not a bad idea to err on the conservative side and assume by 3/9 until given confirmation officially from Admissions.

    Thank you both.

For anyone else reading this thread, I contacted the Adcom and they are working on adding more slots the best they can. After Thursday, they added a few slots and have now extended the March 2nd deadline for on campus visits. Slots are slowly opening up.

I have myself booked an on-campus interview on the 8th.

    Thank you Victor.

I finished my interview not long ago. To my surprise, when I went to the office of my interviewer, it was Ankur Kumar herself :). That is definitely my highlight of the whole application process, I was just reading her interview on Poets and Quants.

    Interviewing on campus rocks!
