  • Do Students get enough time to work on Campus while pursuing MBA?
    From: Sandhir  Jun 28, 2010 Posts 7

    Hi,

I am an IP Professional and I would like to know if the MBA program will allow me enough time to contribute to UPenn by engaging in various patent related issues such as patent analytics (Patent Lanscape Analysis, Freedom-to-operate analysis, Invalidation studies, etc) OR something like commercializing UPenn's IP (Inventions/Patents/Business Methods)? If you could provide me the reference of someone who manages UPenn's IP, it shall be really nice.

I was informed that there was a guest lecture by a gentleman (I think he is a VC) who wanted to commercilize UPenn's IP. If you could provide me some information on this, it shall be of great help.

    Regards,

    Sandhir

    Sandhir,

If you want to make time for it, you can probably make it happen. Whatever "it" is.

That being said, chances are that, unless you choose to prioritize IP work on campus, you will not have time to do intensive work while getting the full MBA experience. Some of my friends have worked while pursuing the MBA offerings, and I can say that they have often felt that they missed out on some key experiences in the process. The MBA curriculum combined with the myriad extra-curricular activities open to our students does not leave a lot of time for outside work unless you choose to prioritize that over other opportunities. Barring compelling financial or career reasons for pursuing such activity, I would strongly advise against it.

My pleasure! Keep in mind, this is only my opinion and perception.

    Best,
